2008 06 21 Millennium of Blood @ Bear Tavern, Birmingham : Chopmusic.co.uk put on a very loud gig (or, as Chop himself would probably refer to it, "brutal"), featuring I Hate You More, Hellfire and Slab. Lighting conditions were, again, challenging, but these are the surviving photos.

2008 06 19 The Bell by Periplum @ Greenwich and Docklands Festival : An open-air performance, utilising street theatre skills, music and pyrotechnics, depicting a settlement where life is a struggle from cradle to grave. Invaders arrive, killing and burning, and then depart as swiftly as they arrived. The survivors mourn their dead leader, and melt down their weapons to forge a giant bell as a symbol of peace. The performance takes place through the audience, with members of the audience being addressed as members of the populace and drafted in as flag-carriers for the funeral procession.

2008 05 24 Screaming Banshee Aircrew @ Barfly, Cambridge : Supported by Corrosion (in their first gig together in years) and Fire and Forget. Rather challenging lighting, even with an f/1.4 lens.

2008 05 07 Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds @ Carling Apollo, Hammersmith : Unfortunately, photos from the back row of the Hammersmith Apollo turned out to be almost beyond the capabilities of the Powershot A470, but some of them captured the lighting effects quite well, if not the band, and Nick Cave's shadowplays were pretty good.

2008 03 03 Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds @ HMV Oxford Street : A special in-store performance to mark the release of the new album, "Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!". Due to the packed crowd, many of these photos were taken overhead at arm's length, or through gaps in the crowd, resulting in occasional foreground obstructions.

2008 02 16 Freeborn John @ Union Chapel, Islington : "Freeborn John" is the tale of John Lilburne, a populist speaker, dissenter and disestablishmentarian at the time of the civil war. Written by Rev Hammer and performed by him and some of his friends from the folk-rock scene, it was performed three nights running at the Beautiful Days festival before being taken on the road. The cast includes both New Model Army and the Levellers - highly suitable, given the origins of the names of both bands. This performance was at the Union Chapel in Islington, a stunning building well suited to the show.
